    Dr.Choi Hee-yoon delivered a speech at EKC 2018

    EKC 2017 was held from Aug.20th to 24th in Glasgow. EKC is an annual conference where scientists, engineers, government officials, industry exeives, and policy-makers from both Korea and Europe share expertise and ideas and develop networking and collaboration. EKC has been held annually in different European countries and has become the most important scientific and social event, bringing scientists and engineers from Europe and Korea together. KISTI also participated in EKC 2018, promoting its KOSEN(Korea Scientists and Engineers Network) project which is connecting Korean scientists and engineers in 70 countries with 130,000 members. At the Korea-Europe R&D forum held on Aug.22nd, Dr.Choi Hee-yoon delivered a speech on "The Role of KISTI in the 4th Industrial Revolution Age". She explained knowledge infrastructure KISTI has been developing as a national leading research institute of science and technology. Especially, she emphasized drastic challenges of R&D environment and to cope with that, she said " it is highly necessary to build virtuous circle of dynamic data ecosystem where industry-academia and research institutes can share the knowledge,data and can cooperate together.

    KISTI has participated in the opening ceremony of SINCYT in Costa Rica

    Dr.Choi Hee-yoon and KISTI researchers have participated in the opening ceremony of “SINCYT” service system, integrated information management system on national R&D information which was developed by KISTI and transferred to Costa Rica based on bilateral agreement between Korea and Costa Rica on Oct. 2016. The “SINCYT” has its significance for KISTI because it is the first case of global technology transfer of NTIS and was recognized highly for its efficiency and outstanding performance for managing national R&D information. KISTI has concluded LOC(Letter of Commitment) with MICITT of Costa Rica on Dec. 2017 and ed developing SINCYT in cooperation with Soft ITech in Korea and ICE(Instituto Costarricense de Elecricidad) in Costa Rica. In its prototype stage, SINCYT has developed information on R&D projects and researchers those who are participated in national R&D project. Dr.Choi Hee-yoon said in her welcome speech that this case will set a good precedent to many countries who’d like to benchmark NTIS system and KISTI will not save any efforts in promoting its global cooperation for sharing NTIS and S&T infrastructure of KISTI.  Mr.Carlos Alvarado, President of Costa Rica, also mentioned he will strongly support this system to be applied into more various areas of national R&D information.

    2018 Korea-Vietnam joint workshop was held in Hanoi on April 24th.

    KISTI, in cooperation with VAST(Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) has organized 2018 Joint workshop in Hanoi on April 24th, This workshop aims to present  prototype of COMPAS vietnam version and to invite recommendations and contributions from Veitnam S&T specialists and researchers. Miso Tech. Corp, which is developing COMPAS Vietnam version is also participated in the workshp and demonstrated its version and proposed COMPAS transfer including price and other conditions. Participating scientists and researchers have shown strong interest in COMPAS Vietnam version but they also demanded to load more patent analysis tool into COMPAS to make it more competitive in comparison with other analysis system which is being served by other countries...

    Director of HLRS visited KISTI

    Dr.Michael Resch, Director of HLRS(High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart) has visited KISTI on March 27th. His visit aimed to discuss mutual collaboration on COVISE between HLRS and KISTI. COVISE stands for COllaborative VIsualization and Simulation Environment. It is an extendable distributed software environment to integrate simulations, postprocessing and visualization functionalities in a seamless manner. KISTI and HLRS are working together to develop parallel renderer for HEMOS-Fluid post  processing which allows to develop large scale post processing for large data displays and desktop. Dr.Choi Heeyoon, Preisden of  KISTI and Dr.Michael Resch have agreed to strengthen mutual collaboration in developing S/W and supporting SMEs by utilizing resources of both sides.

    2018 Korean Scientists and Leaders Forum was held in Spain

    KISTI has organized 2018 Korean Scientists and Leaders Forum on Feb. 25th-26th in Barcelona in cooperation with Ministry of Science and ICT. This forum aimed to draw an idea and plan for the 4th industrial revolution through the open presentation and discussion among participants. This forum was consisted of 3 main sessions, the 4th industrial revolution and job creation, Science Diplomacy and Bioeconomy. About 20 korean scientists working in Eureope and 6 members of the National Assembly and Minister of Ministry of Science and ICT have participated in the forum as speakers and debators. They shared their special knowledge on each topic and exchaged ideas on the current  issues in the session.

    Dr.Choi Hee-yoon, appointed 7th President of KISTI

    Dr.Choi Hee-yoon was appointed 7th President of KISTI by National Council of Science and Technology on Jan. 24th. She has her PhD. on Informatics by YonSei University and developved her career as the director of Infomation Service Center and Knowledge Service Center in KISTI for the last 30 years. At the inaugural address, she suggested KISTI staff to discover their own strength and to advance the day of science strong Korea based on knowledge infrastructre. To do so, she said she will set  her priority on the following R&D areas; -to lay the foundation for joint application of research data, key resources of open science ear -to strengthen information analysis service on national agenda issues -to expand supercomputing support for 4th industrial revolution Dr.Coi has concluded her address by saying " let's open the new era for Sciene Strong Korea together"

    2017 KISTI Global Academy was held in cooperation with STEPI

    To support and facilitate S&T capacity of Ethiopia, KISTI has organized 2017 KISTI Global Academy in cooperatoin with STEPI(Science and Technology Policy Institute) in KISTI head office on Nov.14-16th. This program aims to provide knowledge and experience on S&T infrastructure, Natinal R&D Information Service, Modeling and Simulation for product  design and development, Open Science Policy and Service. During the workshop, participants of STIC(Science and Technology Information Center) of Ethiopia had discussion with KISTI speakers over the way of building S&T Infrastructure in Korea and difficulities and barriers KISTI had had while implementing those services as public institute. As a part of program, they also visited one of SMEs, a member of  KISTI's membercompanies to see how they worked with KISTI and made success story utilizing KISTI information serivce. In concluding the program, KISTI, STEPI and STIC have agreed to work together in promoting the capacity of STIC by means of organizing technical meeting, training program and exchange program for information specialist in STIC.

    NST-ACCIO joint workshop was held in Barcelona

    National Research Council of Science and Technology(NST) and Catalonia Trade & Investment Agency have organized joint workshp on Oct.20-24 in Barcelona. During the workshop,NST and ACCIO have concluded MoU which aims to lay the foundation for promoting joint R&D and technology transfer between Korea and Catalonia. KISTI has participated in technical meeting and introduced its R&D activites and COMPAS system to I2CAT, NaSalle and EUROcat. This meeting was arranged by the demand of Catalonia and KISTI, KRRI and KIST whose technologies were matched in advance participated in technical meeting and met with their counter institutes and companies.During the meeting with Catalonican institutes, participants shared advantage of their technology and discussed how to cooperate to joint R&D for commercialization in Spain and EU market.

    KISTI held R&D session for international collaboration projects during UKC 2017

    KISTI organized a seminar for its global joint R&D projects during the UKC 2017 which was held at Washington D.C. during Aug.09th-12th. This seminar aimed to introduce R&D project and to share performance among researchers partipateing in the project. During the seminar session, 5 projects were presented as follows; -Formational Bounds of Link Prediction for Collaboration Networks -Optimization of global high-resolution nonhydrostatic model(MPAS) and development of service tool   for large data analysis -Enhance the visualization and analysis capabilities of NCAR's VAPOR package -New data mining models to analyze big value networks data -Developing big data analytics framework for U.S. industry intelligence   Researchers and coordinators of projects shared their experience and discussed how to advance their research project in the future.

    MoU with SATI in Vietnam

    KISTI has concluded MoU with SATI(State Agency for Technology Innovation) of MOST in Vietnam on April 18th. This MoU aims to facilitate mutual cooperation in supporing SMEs in Vietnam with science and technology information. KISTI and SATI have agreed to utilize COMPAS(Competitive Information Analysis Service), an On-line analysis service to help users make informed decisions on their R&D and to provide means to analyze the competitive environment(patents and journal articles) of  TOI(Technology of Interest) for SMEs in Vietnam and discussed the way to introduce COMPAS into Vietnam.
