2013ASTI General Meting was held in Daejeon.
KISTI hold 2013 ASTI(Association of Science and Technology Information) General Meeting in Daejeon City.ASTI,which is the largest association among Industry, Academia and Institutes in Korea? has about 12,000 members and this General Meeting aimed to make public of?outstanding performance of research activities?by ASTI members.?At the meeting, 3 ASTI member companies have presented their research activities generated by?successful cooperation with KISTI.? ASTI?member companies are?utilizing KISTI's vast information resources,?analysis and supercomputing?simulation power?in developing?new technology or commercializing their products. About 8,000 CEO and CTO of SMEs are?actively participating?in ASTI?now.?Dr.Park Young-seo, President of KSIT said "ASTI?was founded?in 2009 as a regional cluster and?KISTI has been helping and supporting ASTI since then and?have accomplished a great deal?in recent years. KISTI will do its best to support ASTI?to be highly competitive in future.too".?? -

KISTI concluded MoU with NCSTE
KISTI has concluded MoU with NCSTE, which is National Center for Sceience and Technology Evaluation in Kazakhstan on Aug.21 in its head office. This MoU was concluded as a?follow-up for KISTI's visit to NCSTE?on?May.? While visiting NCSTE, KISTI had a chance to?explain the history, deveopment process and outstanding performance of NTIS, an integrated national R&D management system, to NCSTE staff and also learned that NCSTE is in the position of distributing national R&D funds and is in need of establising nation R&D management system. As a result of this?meeting, KISTI and NCSTE both agreed to pursue?mutual cooperation in the field?of national?science and technology managment system. By concluding the MoU.?both sides will seek the way of establishing NTIS system in Kazhkhstan step by step?including feasibility?study.? -

Vice Minister of Science, ICT & Future Planning visited KISTI
Vice Minister of MSIP(Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning) has visited KISTI on Aug.9 to host a meeting with SMEs.?Under the MSIP's vision of?creative economy, SMEs are regarded as a key player for achieving the creative economy. In line with this regard,?Vice Minister of MSIP?invited?some of?ASTI(Association of Science and Technology Information)?member companies to listen their needs and difficulties to?seek the way that government and KISTI?can?do?together. Participantes?were briefed on KISTI's supporting program for SMEs such as field support, 1-1 mentoring service and?supercomputing simulation?program. Lee Sang-mok,?Vice Minister of MSIP has emphasized the?role of SMEs in the Creative Economy which is the core policy objective of new government and promised that MSIP and public institutes will do their utmost to support and help SMEs to be highly competitive and to be reborn as a growth engine of Korean Economy. Dr.Park Young-seon, President of KISTI also?mentioned that KISTI will not save any efforts in supporting SMEs and will?also expand its SME supporting?program. -

Global partership for Big Date Research
KISTI has concluded MoU with Universtiry of Hildesheim, University of Paderborn and GESIS in Germany to expand its research on science and technology big data. Based on thsi MoU, KISTI will strengthen its joint research on S&T?big data analysis and application technology and also exchanges of research specialists. Softwear?Research Center of KISTI?and these 3 organizations will cooperate on global research on mutual interesting areas?such as ?text mining of big data analysis and application, semantic web and information analysis ?exchange of researchers and academic journals and other information. KISTI will also ask the University of Hildesheim to join the field training program of UST(University?of Science and Technology) -

Dr.Ahn Sul-ah was awarded Prime Minister's Commendation
Dr.Ahn Sul-ah, a senior researcher of Global Data Hub Center at KISTI, received Prime Minister's Commendation at 46th Science and 58th ICT Day on May 19th . Dr.Ahn was awarded this honor for her outstanding contribution in high-performance computational physics, reseach and development of bioinformatics and her mentoring activities for university students studying in science and engineering. President Park Geun-hye, Dr.Choi Mun-kee, Minister of Science, ICT & Future Planning and about 800 employees of science and ICT industries attended the ceremony which was held to support the harmony of science and ICT. -

English Journal JSTaP is published by KISTI
JISTaP(Journal of Information Science Theory and Practice), the first English journal on informatics in Korea, is published by KISTI on April 18th. KISTI has organized its publishing seminar at Daejeon Head Office and presented its preparation process and future plan. JISTaP, a quarterly journal, will publish the outcome of various research theories and applications of information dissemination and technology in informatics. JISTaP will be made in open access journal and anybody can access it free of charge and especially easy on mobile environment. More interestingly, QR code will be attached to every journals to be pubished for the first time in the world. Dr.Gary Marchionini, University of North Carolina and Dr.Oh Dong-geun, Keimyung University were appointed joint chief-editors and about 30 prominent scientists and specialists in 8 countries will participate as editors of JISTaP. Dr.Choi, director of KISTI infomation service center was appointed a deputy-editor and said "JISTaP will be a world renowned academic journal in future because it will go by the international level peer-reivew process?and can also be searched at global sites such?as Google Scholar and?WorldWideScience". KISTI is expecting?to share the experience accumulated from publishing JISTaP with?local journal?publishing associations to contribute to the globalization of domestic S&T journals. -

Dr.Lee Ji-soo's interview with Korea IT News
"I thought that the same people should not use the supercomputer for the same purpose?15 years ago and 5 years ago" said Dr.Lee Ji-soo who is a director general of national supercomputing center?at the interview with Korea IT news on the occasion of the foundation of National Supercomputer Center. Application of supercomputer is quite active in every industries in U.S. but remins stationary in Korea. As the Big data is emerging as a new issue, capability of supercomputing application will be a key factor deciding the competitiveness of national science and technology.? ?Dr.Lee said KISTI has a plan to develop its own supercomputer in near future. "Planning will be done by this year and technology development will be conducted from next year"he said. He also added that the basic framework for national supercomputing application is set now by the legislation of the laws for application and promotion of national high-performance computer last year and establishment of supercomputing eco-system remains to be done.
