'Chungcheong Cybersecurity Conference 2026' Concludes Successfully

- Spotlighting Key On-Site Interests Ranging from National Policies to Best Practices Under the Theme of 'AI Security and Resilience'

- Nurturing Regional Talent Through Cyber Threat Scenario Contest Award Ceremony and Academic Conference

□ The 'Chungcheong Cybersecurity Conference 2026' was successfully held on Tuesday, September 22, at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC).

□ The conference featured a comprehensive program including academic sessions that explored the advancement and safety of AI, introduced the latest cyber and AI security policies, shared best security practices from public institutions, and showcased academic achievements in the field of information security.

□ In his opening remarks, Dr. Sik Lee, President of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), emphasized "the importance of proactively strengthening security capabilities to address cyber threats in the AI era, alongside nationwide cooperation to enhance cyber resilience." In a welcoming message, the Chief of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Regional Branch proposed overcoming the challenges of the AI era in the spirit of 'Adapting to Change' and 'Leaping Together' (consalire).

□ In the subsequent congratulatory speeches, President Yong-ha Kim of Konyang University highlighted "support for fostering cybersecurity talent," while Soohoon Hwang, President of the National Security Research Institute (NSR), stressed "a collaborative cybersecurity response system encompassing industry, academia, research institutes, and government" as a key message.

□ Keynote speeches focused on two main pillars: AI 'Advancement' and 'Safety.' Prof. Kuk-Jin Yoon, Dean of the Graduate School of AI at KAIST, presented on 'National AI Development Strategy in the Era of AI Transformation,' and Dr. Myung-Joo Kim, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Safety Research Institute at ETRI, delivered a presentation on 'Building a Sustainable AI Safety Ecosystem,' setting the main agenda for the conference.

□ The event gained further significance as leaders of key organizations—including KISTI, KAIST, Konyang University, K-water, Korea National Railway, KORAIL, Korea Western Power, Korea Mid-East Power, KOGAS-Tech, and the Korea Institute of Information Security & Cryptology (KIISC)—personally presented awards to the winners of the 'Chungcheong Region University (Graduate) Student Cyber Threat Scenario Contest.' Team 'Na Gang-rim' from Konyang University, which won the Grand Prize, expressed their thoughts, saying, "This was a valuable opportunity to deeply reflect on cyber threats, and we wish to continue learning and growing in the field of information security.“

□ In the afternoon, two parallel tracks were conducted: a Conference Track covering expert lectures, policy updates, and institutional best practices, and an Academic Track centered on information security research paper presentations.

□ In the Conference Track, Assoc. Prof. Insu Yun from the School of Electrical Engineering at KAIST delivered a lecture titled 'Cybersecurity Before the Singularity: How Shall We Respond?', offering insights into cyber resilience amid AI-driven security threats. This was followed by a session reviewing the latest cyber and AI security policies of the National Intelligence Service.

□ Sharing real-world industry perspectives, the best practice presentations featured K-water's case on the 'Introduction and Implementation of Generative AI in K-water's Internal Network' and the Daegu Center of the National Information Resources Service (NIRS) presenting its 'Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Cloud Services.‘

□ Simultaneously in the Academic Track, the Chungcheong Chapter of KIISC held an information security research paper presentation session along with an NIS recruitment briefing, connecting academic programs in information security with career development opportunities for university students. Prof. ManHee Lee of Hannam University, Head of the Chungcheong Chapter of KIISC, evaluated the conference as "a valuable occasion not only to share various research outcomes of local information security students but also to access an NIS recruitment session specialized in the ICT sector.“

□ The event concluded with a meeting of the Cybersecurity Working Council for Daejeon Metropolitan City, Sejong Special Self-Governing City, and Chungcheongnam-do Province.

□ With approximately 500 attendees, the conference received enthusiastic responses from the regional community by extensively addressing policy, technical, operational, and research agendas surrounding AI and cybersecurity.
