KISTI Hosts 'KSC2026', Highlighting the Convergence of HPC, AI, and Quantum Computing to Open New Frontiers in Intelligent Computing

- Korea's largest high-performance computing (HPC) academic conference

- Gathering the latest technologies and research achievements in one place, from 'AI for Science' to HPC/AI infrastructure and quantum computing

□ The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (President Sik Lee, hereafter KISTI) is hosting the 'Korea Supercomputing Conference 2026 (KSC2026)' at the Swiss Grand Hotel Convention Center in Seoul for two days, from September 8 to September 9.

□ Now in its 23rd year, KSC is Korea's largest academic conference in the field of supercomputing. This year, under the theme of 'The Intelligent Frontier: Synergizing HPC, AI and Quantum,' the conference will focus on how the powerful computational capabilities of HPC (High-performance Computing), the learning and reasoning abilities of AI, and the new computing paradigm of quantum computing can be organically combined to accelerate scientific discovery and industrial innovation.

□ KSC2026 features a wide array of programs addressing core issues in future computing technologies, including AI for Science, large-scale AI/HPC infrastructure, HPC applications and technologies, and quantum/hybrid computing.

□ On the first day, the keynote address will be delivered by Eyee Hyun Nam, CEO of FADU, a company specializing in datacenter semiconductors. Under the topic of 'Redefining Datacenter Flash: The Future of NAND, SSD, and Controllers in the Age of AI,' CEO Nam will present changes in the datacenter storage industry driven by the expansion of AI, along with strategic directions for technological innovation. Following this, Seong-Hyok Sean Kim, Vice President at LG Electronics, will speak on 'Quantum Computing Hype vs. Reality,' examining the expectations and realities surrounding quantum computing while offering an overview of its current state and future potential.

□ A key highlight of KSC2026 is a dedicated session exploring the practical applications of quantum computing as a next-generation computing technology. The session will highlight its potential across diverse research domains, such as quantum state analysis, combinatorial optimization, and drug discovery. Notably, it will project the new computational environment emerging from the convergence of HPC, AI, and Quantum computing through hybrid approaches and real-world research case studies.

□ Dr. Sik Lee, President of KISTI and Chair of the KSC2026 Organizing Committee, stated, "Now is the time to further accelerate the pace of scientific discovery and industrial innovation through the convergence of HPC, AI, and quantum computing." He added, "I expect this event to serve as a platform for bridging different technologies and research domains, as well as initiating new research and collaborative partnerships."

□ Throughout the event, specialized sessions and workshops will be held to share research achievements and technical trends across various fields, including supercomputing utilization and support, computational science research, and HPC hardware/software technologies. Further information on KSC2026 is available on the official website (https://www.ksc-hpc.kr), and free on-site registration is offered on the day of the event.
